A Guide to Buying Earrings That Match You

I am sure that not a lot of thought goes into buying earrings; after all they are just two pieces of jewelry that barely get noticed right? Wrong! Are you aware that even in the smallest picture of yourself, like a driver’s license or passport, your earrings stand out immediately? Well they do.
Earrings come in all sizes, shapes, metals and styles. Often times we grab a pair out of the jewelry box and off we go. There have been times that I have left one pair of earrings in my ears indefinitely, not realizing that maybe they did not match the particular outfit for that day. Ladies, let’s stop the madness, let’s pamper our ears once in awhile!
Ears, often not really thought about, are made up of cartilage, soft and moveable but not always pain free. Some alloys in the metal used for fashion earrings are very invasive to cartilage, believe it or not. If you have ever experienced minor pain with your pierced ears, chances are you have had an allergic reaction to the metal or silicon used in the earrings. If when in doubt, always opt for “hypo-allergenic” posts when purchasing earrings for yourself or for a gift.
Earrings make the perfect gift because they are always the right fit. The most basic jewelry piece in your entire jewelry box, but yet the most worn. You may leave the house without a bracelet or necklace but you will almost always have earrings on!
Most earring styles go with anything, But there are still a few “Do’s and Don’ts” in the fashion trends today.
Do’s:

  • DO wear what is comfortable. Give your ears a break once in awhile from those long drop style earrings, or the one’s that weigh 2lbs. A simple ball stud or gem stud will still show off your ears in style but keep you comfortable all day long and keep your ears happy too!
  • DO keep one pair each of yellow and white gold hoops, medium size. This is the universal classic style, which can be worn with jeans, t-shirts or even skirt and blouse.
  • DO keep one pair each of yellow ball studs or any other simple design (no dangles) and throw in a pair of white gold or white metal simple stud earrings too. These are easily kept in the ears without discomfort and are perfect while traveling.
  • DO have at least one pair of simple diamond studs. Diamonds too expensive? Buy CZ studs. A small diamond look in the ear is fabulous and very trendy, especially if the fancy cuts are used such as; princess, square, radiant or marquis.
  • DO keep a small tube of Neosporin handy! If your ears get infected or irritated, Neosporin to the rescue!

Don’ts:

  • DON’T wear long, heavy earrings too often. The weight can actually pull on your earlobes, causing them to elongate over time, not pretty!
  • DON’T wear many hoops of the same size in all holes, this is just plain tacky! Instead graduate the hoops from large to small, going up the ear. An even better look is sticking to only one or two hoops, followed by a simple stud or ball design.
  • DON’T or at least try to avoid wearing very inexpensive metal fashion earrings for too long. Avoiding the dangers of lead poisoning is more important than looking like a “Bling Goddess”!

Remember, there are three styles of earrings; Hoops, Studs and Drop. All three should be included in your jewelry inventory, but all three should not be worn all at once! A simple fashion tip of the day, to send you on your merry way…
